ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
The
Iowa Mavericks AAU Basketball program was established in the spring of 2000 to
provide talented young athletes with quality teaching, competition, exposure,
teammates, and overall experience in basketball outside of their school season.
PROGRAM
The Iowa Mavericks will field
six high-school aged teams in three age groups (17U/11th grade, 16U/10th Grade,
and 15U/9th Grade) for the 2011 spring/summer season. Teams will be be made
up of players from throughout the state of Iowa, and will participate in seven
to nine tournaments in the spring and summer months. All coaches are
NCAA-certified, and have experience coaching and running camps at the AAU, High
School, and College levels. The Mavericks play a very competitive
schedule, designed to provide athletes with exposure to college coaches and
national recruiting services. The program provides an enhanced opportunity
for players to develop their skills to play at the collegiate level, and earn
athletic scholarships.
PLAYERS
Mavericks
players are selected in many ways... through recommendations from high school or
other coaches, evaluation at high school or other games, and from individual or
group workouts. Mavericks players are chosen based on their skill level...
but also on their desire to work hard, compete, and improve their game.
Former Mavs have come from a variety of areas... in the past, we have had
players from 1A schools to 4A schools, from Sioux City to the Quad Cities, and
everywhere in between. Many athletes play multiple sports, and some choose
to focus just on basketball.

SCHEDULE
Mavericks teams will play a total of 8 tournaments between late
March and late July each season. Most tournaments are held on
weekends (Saturday/Sunday), although some will start on Friday
afternoons. Some travel is obviously required, but most
tournaments will be held in Iowa or in neighboring Midwest states.
Coaches will attempt to work around player's scheduling conflicts,
especially with high-school athletics like track and baseball.
